LUCELEC Funds Special Ed Class
Castries, January 22, 2025 – St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) has made a significant contribution to the establishment of a Special Education classroom at the Vieux-Fort Infant School. The project, supported by District 6 IT Officer Chanin Aimable, saw the involvement of Greenspace – Landscapes and Construction, who with the assistance of several volunteers, dedicated it’s time to refurbish and paint the specially designed learning space.
The initial request made to LUCELEC was for the purchase of electronic devices to facilitate instruction within the workspace. Inspired by the dedication of the school and parents to see the project to fruition – LUCELEC broadened and increased the scope of its investment, including the volunteer efforts of its team members.
“LUCELEC has been a major contributor to this project, and we want to thank them for their contribution and of course the volunteers here today. They’ve done an excellent job in painting and helping with this project, and we want to say thank you so much for your support, of course, your continued support towards education and improving the lifestyles of children, especially in the times that we live,” says Mr Aimable.
LUCELEC Volunteer Sherry Etienne expressed her motivation to be part of the volunteer painting crew from the company.
“I thought it was so important for me to give my time here today because this initiative to help students, the future of this country, the future of the world, is very important. We want to create spaces where children feel comfortable whilst learning, where children can absorb as much knowledge as possible.”
The student support/special education resource room is designed to meet the unique learning needs of twenty-five students. That includes specially selected paint, lighting, furniture, sensory devices and tools and innovative technology to ensure students can learn without negative impact on their sensory sensitivities. Team LUCELEC happily contributed funds towards these efforts including the installation of air conditioning units for the classroom.
Speaking at the official opening of the space, LUCELEC Senior Manager – Corporate Communications, Omari Frederick emphasized the Company’s commitment to provide young people with opportunities for success.
“We are driven by a purpose to give all students the power to thrive every day and in every way. How do we do that? By enriching our communities. It is our obligation as a corporate entity to support the growth and development of our young people by creating avenues and opportunities for inclusion. Avenues and opportunities for the creation of safe spaces, safe spaces where young people can learn, engage, develop and derive value from everyday experiences.”
