Statement on Dismissal of Andrea Vidal

Submitted by carib on Tue, 2012-08-07 11:39

The St Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) is an equal opportunity employer and has never and will never engage in discriminatory practices, least of all those that impugn the constitutional rights of employees.

The decision to terminate the employment of Mrs. Andrea Vidal was purely related to a breach of the terms of her contract of employment, her refusal to work when requested to do so, and after all efforts to have her comply were exhausted, having regard to the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited being an essential service pursuant to the Essential Services Act, Cap 16.12 Revised Laws of St. Lucia 2001.

In order to ensure equal opportunity and fairness the company’s contracts are not varied to accommodate any one person or group.  It is an offer of employment that a person is free to accept or reject.

Mrs. Vidal accepted the terms of employment and then subsequently refused to abide by these terms.
