LUCELEC Statement On Service Interruptions On August 16 & 17
Castries, August 20, 2024 – At 8:53 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) experienced a loss of service to approximately 20% of its valued customers.
The outage was caused by a fault on its distribution network due to excavation works that damaged a section of underground cable close to the LUCELEC Cul-de-Sac substation.
LUCELEC technical teams immediately began network system repairs with restoration beginning at 9:37 a.m. and ending at 2:32 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
On Saturday, August 17, 2024, there was an additional loss of supply to customers from Canaries to Roseau including Anse La Verdue, Au Tabor and Massacre after a fallen tree broke a utility pole.
The system configuration necessitated by Friday’s incident prevented LUCELEC from minimizing the impact of this outage on customers in these areas.
Power restoration in this instance began at 1:48 p.m. and was completed at 8:07 p.m.
Work to restore the LUCELEC Cul-de-Sac facility and system to normal configuration began on Sunday, August 18 at 11:46 a.m. and was completed at 2:09 p.m.
LUCELEC apologises to its customers for these unplanned outages and for the inconvenience experienced as a result.
