Castries, May 02, 2026 – St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) wishes to provide additional information regarding the island-wide power outage experienced across Saint Lucia on the evening of Friday, May 1, 2026.

At approximately 9:37 p.m., an unexpected fault occurred on an 11 kilovolt (11kV) breaker within LUCELEC’s Cul-de-Sac electricity network. The fault triggered the automatic protection systems designed to prevent significant equipment damage resulting in the total shutdown of the electricity system.

Castries, August 20, 2024 – At 8:53 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) experienced a loss of service to approximately 20% of its valued customers.

The outage was caused by a fault on its distribution network due to excavation works that damaged a section of underground cable close to the LUCELEC Cul-de-Sac substation.

LUCELEC technical teams immediately began network system repairs with restoration beginning at 9:37 a.m. and ending at 2:32 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
